Day of Infamy: The day the Japenese attacked Pearl Harbor, just before the start of World War II. Infamy is defined as the state of being well known for some bad quality or deed.
On December 6, 1941, everyone in the United States went to bed thinking tomorrow would be another regular morning. But at 7:55 am, December 7, 1941, everyone's lives changed for the worst. A Japanese dive bomber appeared out of the clouds above the island of Oahu, leading 360 other Japanese warplanes. This surprise attacked affected everyone in the US because it lead us to entering into World War II. The Pacific fleet was pretty much useless, having 5 of 8 battleships, 3 destroyers, and seven other ships either sunken or severally damanged. More than 200 aircrafts were also destroyed in the battle of Pearl Harbor. 2,400 Americans were killed and 1,200 were injured. American loses and damage were much more severe than Japan's. But America came in a little lucky because all three Pacific fleet carriers were out at sea and would help us in revenge later at the Battle of Midway. President Roosevelt, the next day, named this day as "A date that would live in infamy." He then asked Congress to approve the war between the US and Japan, thus entering us into the second World War. The vote was 82-0 in the Senate and 399 - 1 in the House. A few days later, Germany and Italy declared war on us.
